La Digue

La Digue is a perfect place to enjoy perfect tropical beauty and harmony. The best mode of transportation on La Digue is bicycles...the roads are somewhat uneven as most are still unpaved...but the glides under shady canopies to reach blissful beach solitude are incomparable.

This stunning little island is probably the most photographed island in the world. It's the breeding ground of the rare Black Paradise Flycatcher. Ox carts are the primary means of transportation, which can take the visitor past old plantation houses, a vanilla plantation, a copra factory and, of course, the incomparable beaches (star of Bacardi ads, swimsuit fashion shoots and countless honeymoon snapshots). These are protected by the surrounding coral reefs together with masses of pink granite rocks which glow red in the setting sun. These wild, deserted beaches are excellent for safe swimming, snorkeling and fishing. Ideal for walking, the island can be comfortably circumnavigated at a leisurely amble. This 4th largest island retains all of the charm and tranquility visitors travel halfway around the world to enjoy.

Paradise flycatcher (male)
Finally, the last day we were on the island,
we saw this beautiful male. La Digue is the only
island where you can find the Paradise Flycatcher.

Anse Source d'Argent
This was the most beautiful beach where I' ve ever been
Sea turtle
Me with a Hawksbill seaturtle,
it was amazing to swim around with them!
Anse Severe
Another beautiful beach...boring, don't you think?

Heavy!!!
On most of Seychelles' islands, you see
granite everywhere.
On Mahe, most granite is black coloured,
on Praslin and La Digue it's red.

All alone
Even on the most beautiful beaches,
there's nobody around. You'll never see
more than 30 tourists at one time. That's
something else than those crowded beaches
in Europe!!
