Cousin, my research island...

A few kilometers from Praslin is the island of Cousin situated. Cousin, a bird sanctuary, extends over 27 hectares and is entirely dedicated to nature. In fact, the Seychelles Government declared it a Special Reserve in 1975, thus offering all the wildlife on the island legal protection.

Amongst the species to see are the Seychelles fody, the Seychelles turtle dove, the white-faced tropic bird, The wedge-tailed shearwater, the fairy tern, noddies and bridled terns. The Seychelles brush warbler can be found only on Cousin, Cousine and Aride.

On this beautiful island, I lived for about three months, doing my research project about the Seychelles warbler.

Cousin field station
This is the house where we lived, about 10 meters from the sea. You could say that the sea was our front yard. Sometimes we even saw dolphins swimming!

The beach where I spent my free Sundays. It was abandoned..
View point
The view point was the most perfect place to watch the sunset.

My favourite tropicbird chick
This young tropicbird always looked at us like this. He was really really sweet!
I'm no tourist...
From Tuesday to Friday, tourists were visiting the island. They made a tour of 1.5 hours and then left the island. For them it's not allowed to come on the island theirselves.
